26 children rescued from India

Mahottari, April 20: The Central Child Welfare Board has rescued 26 children from India. The children had been taken to the neighbouring country from Mahottari, Dhanusa, Siraha and Sarlahi on different pretexts.

The children were being taken to Chennai from Sitamadi in Bihar of India when the Sitamadi administration intercepted them, according to Chief District Officer of Mahottari Umesh Kumar Dhakal. The children were later handed over to the Nepali authorities in the Nepali border at Bhittamod of Mahottari.

The children included 12 from Mahottari, 11 from Dhanusa, three from Siraha and two from Sarlahi. They aged between 15 to 17 years and a majority of them were from the Dalit community. They have been taken to Janakpur and will hand over to their respective families after undergoing the due process, Chief District Officer Dhakal said.
