President Bhandari urges mass media to contribute to nation development

Kathmandu, May 7: President Bidhya Devi  Bhandari has said journalism sector should be oriented to meaningful implementation of the government journey to prosperity as the country has already got political stability and stable peace.

Addressing a program organized to mark the National journalism day 2076 at Shital Niwas today, the president said the constitution has fully guaranteed absolute press freedom and press is a significant medium to strengthen democracy.

At the same venue, Minister for Information technology and communication, Gokul Prasad Baskota said the government is preparing to bring laws in a view to taking journalism sector to the golden age with the guarantee of professional dignity, editorial freedom and economic freedom of journalists for institutionalizing the democracy.

Ministry Secretary Mahendraman Gurung also said the government is for the responsible and free press.
