Communications Minister Baskota says government working for better welfare of press sector

Hetauda, May 14: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Baskota has said that the government has no enmity with media.

Inaugurating a disaster recovery centre built with China aid at Huprachaur of Hetauda today, communications Minister Baskota clarified that the government has not presented media council bill in parliament as per the claims made by the media sector. He added that Nepali press is enjoying full press freedom as compared to other countries. However, Minister Baskota said the government will ban foreign investment in the communications sector.

Also inaugurating fibre-to-home service of the Nepal Telecom, Sauraha in Chitwan today, he said anarchism in the name of the press cannot become the norm and standard of an independent press.
Making it clear that the government is not bias towards the press, minister Baskota said domestic and international practices have been taken into consideration while formulating the new bill related to media.
