New bill on environment conservation to be brought for maintaining balance between environment and development: Minister Basnet

Kathmandu, June 28: Minister for Forests and Environment, Shakti Bahadur Basnet has said a new bill on environment conservation is to be brought for maintaining a balance between environment and development.

Speaking at a discussion program with lawmakers proposing amendments to the Environment Conservation Bill, 2075 BS organized by the Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources Committee of the Legislature-Parliament today, Minister Basnet said there are challenges in terms of maintaining a balance between development and the environment.

He further said although a large number of trees need to be cut down for constructing big infrastructures like airport and roads, the environment should be protected at the same time.
