Flood in Lamjung kills 4 people, 20 others missing

Lamjung, July 24: Four persons have died after being swept away by flooded Drodi Khala in Lamjung. More than 20 people are reported to be out of contact.

Two bodies were recovered from the Sherapul of Dordi Rural Municipality-4 and two more were found at Kritipur of Lamjung. The identity of the deceased has not been ascertained.

The locals have speculated that the flood occurred due to landslide in and around Manasalu Mountain.

Meanwhile, three labourers have gone missing when the flood entered into the under-construction tunnel of super Dordi Hydropower project. However, 14 out of the 17 labourers were rescued unharmed. The promoter of the project Keshav Rayamajhi said the search of the missing is underway.

Likewise, more than 15 labourers who had been working for the Dordi Hydropower Project promoted by Energy Power Company have gone missing. Promoter of the project Rajendra Wosti has said that the exact number of missing labourers has been ascertained yet. The labourers who had been taking shelter on the bank of river were swept by the flood.

After the disaster, high official including Chief District Office or Lamjung Dr Dijan Bhattari have set towards the accident site. Meanwhile, due to the incessant rain from last evening has disrupted the rescue and rescue efforts at the landslide affected areas in Satyabati of Gulmi. The police said four people are still missing in the landslide.

Meanwhile, some six hundred households have been relocated from the landslide affected area. The entire settlement at Dulo Lumpek of Singdi Village in Satyabati -3 is at high risk of landslides.

Some four hundred people of Lumpek have also been relocated at Dharmapur Secondary School and some other places.

Similarly, some two hundred households of Limgha are also relocated at Saswoti Secondary School. In the landslide, nine people lost their lives and four are still missing.
