Chhat festival being observed worshipping setting sun

Kathmandu, Nov. 2: The Chhat festival considered as the festival of purity, good will and faith is being observed with high regard and much fanfare. The main ritual of the four-day Chhath festival begins this evening by worshipping and making offerings to the setting sun. The devotee’s revelers are taking a holy bath while fasting and worshiping the sun standing in water ponds this evening.

In Janakpurdham, the festival is being observed with people gathering at the local historical ponds-Ganga Sagar, Dhanus Sagar, Ram Sagar, Ratna Sagar, Bihar Kunda, and Agni Kunda among others.

The festival is being celebrated with fanfare on the banks of rivers, including Guheshwori, Gahanapokhari, Kamalpokhari, Bagmati, Balkhu, Nakhkhu and Bishnumati in Kathmandu.

On the occasion, President Bidya Devi Bhandari reached Guyeswori and worshiped in the temple of Chhathi Mata or goddess of power established amidst the Bagmati River.
