Lawmakers for diplomatic dialogue to resolve disputed border

Kathmandu, Nov 11: Lawmakers have suggested the government to resolve the disputed border issues with India on the basis of evidence, bilateral agreements, and historical facts.

Speaking in a meeting of the International Relations Committee under the House of Representatives (HoR) today, the lawmakers urged the government to hold diplomatic talks with India to resolve the borders issues that have surfaced after India unilaterally released its political map placing Nepali territory inside India.

The committee concluded that Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipulek are Nepali territory and there is no confusion on its evidences on the basis of the Sugauli treaty and its supplementary treaties. Speaking in the meeting, a lawmaker and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal stressed on holding talks with India on the issue as Nepal has clear evidence.

Similarly, Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali argued that the recent map released by India will not be acceptable to Nepal and the MoFA is initiating to hold high level diplomatic talks to resolve the issues. Lawmaker, Bhim Rawal opined to hold talks with India with high morale and strong evidences. He also suggested that the government to regularly monitor the border.

Dr. Narayan Khadka opined to hold talks with India after forging a single voice among the political parties adding that the issues of the nation’s border are highly sensitive and connected to national pride.

Lawmakers Pushpa Bhusal, Agni Sapkota, Mohan Baniya, Dibya Mani Rajbhandari, Prem Prasad Tulachan,  Narad Muni Rana,  Sujita Shakya, Dr. Deepak Bhatta stressed on resolving the border issues through the diplomatic channel. Director General at the Department of Survey Prakash Joshi informed the meeting about its activities regarding effective monitoring of the border.
