PM Oli reappointed, taking oath on Friday

Kathmandu, May 13: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has been reappointed to the post of PM on Thursday night.

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari reappointed PM Oli as other political parties failed to claim majority in the parliament to form a new government.

President Bhandari had given the parties in the Federal Parliament to present claim with majority parliamentarians on their side for a new government until 9 PM, Thursday. As the parties could not do so, PM Oli has been reappointed to the post as per the constitutional provision in Article 76(3).

This provision mentions that the parliamentary party leader of the largest party in the parliament becomes PM if two or more than two parties fail to form a majority government during the time allocated by President following PM’s failure to win vote of confidence.

As per the provision, PM Oli has been automatically reappointed because other parties could not garner majority on their side even after he lost vote of confidence.

According to the Office of the President, PM Oli will take oath of office and secrecy on Friday.
